The name
Where the seven comes from
Siebenbürgen is traditionally read as “seven citadels”; thirteenth-century Latin sources already write Septem Castra. The origin is not settled — other readings point to the seven Saxon judicial seats — and these are the seven towns the sources hand down. The seven explains our name, not our map: we look for places across Transylvania, in whichever town has the building worth staying in.
